Update Yearly – Stay Legally Compliant
Employment law in the UK is constantly evolving, and as a business owner, keeping up to date isn’t just good practice, it’s essential protection.
Each year, new legislation and case law can change how you manage your staff, from contracts and handbooks to working patterns and leave entitlements. If your documents aren’t reviewed regularly, you could unintentionally fall foul of the law – and face the risk of grievances, disputes, or even tribunal claims.
For example, in 2024–2025, we’ve seen important updates such as:
· Carer’s Leave – giving employees the right to take up to one week of unpaid leave each year to care for a dependant.
· Flexible and Predictable Working Patterns – coming into force in 2025, allowing employees to request more predictable hours or work schedules.
· Extended Redundancy Protection for pregnant employees and those returning from family leave.
These updates may sound minor, but each one impacts your Staff Handbook, Contracts of Employment, and HR procedures. Even a single missing clause can leave your business exposed.
At Business Strategy Group, we recommend reviewing your contracts and policies every 12 months – not only to stay compliant, but to ensure your documents reflect your current culture, working practices, and business goals.
